From Dec. 1 - 23 the Eastern Hungary Team worked every day at a Christmas Market booth here in Debrecen. We gave away Bibles to those who signed a commitment card to try to read it through during the coming year (2008 has been declared the Year of the Bible in Hungary.) About 800 Bibles were given away. People were amazed that they were free, and many kept asking us what they owed even after we explained that it was a gift. There were tears shed and heads shaken in disbelief, but smiles, too, as people accepted their Bible. For many it was the first one they had ever had of their own. Our thanks to those of you who made the project possible through special gifts or through your support of the Cooperative Program and Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. To God be the glory! Visual Bible Book of Matthew DVD's were also available in our booth to people who registered for a small group meeting in their area to discuss the DVD content. We have trained group leaders from local churches, and 15 groups have formed. A volunteer team from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas was here from Dec. 28 - Jan. 6. They did an outreach project to university students by hosting a week-long coffee house in one of the international dorms over the holiday/exam time. In addition to sharing fun times and coffee, there were opportunities for some deep conversations. New friendships were formed that are continuing across the Internet.
