2009 Summer Worker Team
Preparation Letter to Interns | Other Volunteers
- The Interns -
The summer 2009 interns worked in strategic towns across eastern Hungary, prayerwalking and reaching out through friendship evangelism, assisting in English and sports camps and other special outreach activities. Please join us in praying for the people they came into contact with. Pray specifically that the Lord will continue to work in the hearts of those who heard the Gospel.

"For the past nineteen years I have grown up in a home with parents who are like-minded. Because of the foundation that my parents have helped me build, I have had numerous opportunities to use my gifts and talents in service. I enjoy singing and leading in singing, sports, and being outdoors. I have led small group studies, and have worked with children, college students, and youth. In high school I was a cheerleader and played tennis. I am currently living at home and attending the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. My major is currently undecided, but I am exploring the field of psychology. After I finish my education, I would like to work in the United States and gain experience in the area that I choose to work. Then I would like to move overseas, establish roots in a foreign culture, and raise a family.
"At the age of fifteen I knew there was something bigger to life than being content in my own believing. On a trip to east Asia with a team from my club, I felt the Father's calling on my life to serve him in international service. Since this trip I have participated in every opportunity available to serve and share his love with others. Last March I went to South Africa. There he did a work in my life and showed me that service isn't always about going far away. It is simply surrendering to him and being available to work wherever he has placed me. This has radically transformed my thinking and changed the way I do life. While my desire is still to serve overseas, I believe that the Father is bigger than I can imagine and that he will place me wherever I am supposed to be, as long as I stay flexible!"

"I was raised in an awesome Christian home. I received Christ when I was eight, and since then I have always felt called to the mission field. I have been a member of the same church my entire life and have never once found a more loving family. Because of my church's support, this trip and many others have been made possible. God has also blessed me with an amazing fiancee. Destiny has been my biggest supporter since we first met two years ago. If God had not blessed me with all of this suport I believe that I would not be in Hungary right now; but he did, and that is why I am here doing his work. I have always enjoyed mission work, and this is the biggest trip I have ever been on. I can't wait to get started!"

"I was born and raised in Guatemala where my parents continue to serve after about 36 years. I have one sister and two brothers, all older than I am, and three nephews and one niece whom I absolutely love. I enjoy reading and sports of all kinds. I played soccer in college, but I basically just like to be playing something! I'm a very relational person. Some of my passions include people, traveling, and sports. I graduated from Anderson University with a degree in Physical Education. After college I spent two years serving in Guatemala using sports and storying. Next I moved on to Spain for two years to work with University students. The last year of my life I was serving back at Anderson doing student mobilization. I am now at Southeastern Seminary studying toward an MA in Intercultural Studies. My goal and desire is to finish up next Spring and then to return to Spain to serve full time. I realize that is a year away and a lot could change in that time, which I am open to, but for now...that is my focus."

- Other Volunteers -
Volunteers play a major role in the ministry here in eastern Hungary, and are an important part of our team. We praise the Lord for each one who comes to serve, giving of their time and talents to reach out to the lost and to encourage the local believers. We also appreciate those of you back home who support them through your prayers and giving. Thank you for making it possible for them to come and help in the work! Please continue to pray for the people that Nick and the Cross Timber teams came into contact with, and that the seeds that were planted will grow.

"I come from a wonderful family. My parents have been married 26 years and raised my brother and me in a Christian home. I attend Mississippi College and am pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Christian Studies with a focus in Greek and Hebrew. I plan to attend seminary and seek an M Div. I feel called to be a pastor and am currently in the interviewing process with a church to serve as youth director. Last summer I worked with a wonderful friend in Nepal who was an MK; his parents had served in eastern Europe for a number of years. I learned from him about the situation of the church there and of the needs of the people, and I feel called to go and serve. I am a skateboarder and it seems only natural to use a skill that I love so much to reach out to other skaters."
Cross Timber Baptist Church Teams
Two teams came this summer from Cross Timber Baptist Church of Burleson, Texas. The first one, made up of college students and their sponsor, worked with us to lead a baseball camp in the town of Püspökladány during the week of May 18 to 23. This is the second camp we have organized there. It functioned like an after-school program during the week with a wrap-up tournament on Saturday. This year we had the added blessing of having help from Good Sports International. Pray that God will continue to work in the lives of the kids of the school.

A second team came from Cross Timber to hold an English camp in Hajdúszoboszló from July 6-12 at the local Baptist church. This allowed the church an opportunity to further minister and strengthen connections within their community. Two of the four on the team were returnees from the previous year, which helped establish continuity in the program and fostered closer relationships. The camp was a great success, with even more attending than we had hoped for! Besides the English that was learned, Bible stories and discussions about spiritual matters were enjoyed by all. Wonderful friendships were formed and opportunities are now opening up for a possible small group that will meet on an ongoing basis.
